Description

What is Indivan 400 mg Capsule ?

Indivan is a prescription medicine that contains Indinavir 400 mg as an active ingredient. Indivan comes in capsule form and its each pack contains 30 capsules. It is manufactured by a well-known pharmacy which is famous around the world by the name of Cipla. Indinavir should only be taken under the supervision of a health care professional. Follow the descriptions given you by your doctor regarding the right medicine, at the right time, and at the right dosage.

When is Indivan 400 mg Capsule prescribed ?

Indivan (Indinavir) is used along with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome).

How Does Indivan (Indinavir) Capsule Work ?

When HIV infects a cell, it takes control of that cell. HIV then forces the cell to make many more copies of the virus. To make these copies, the cell uses proteins called enzymes. When the activity of these enzymes is reduced the production of HIV slows.

Indinavir belongs to a group or class of drugs called protease inhibitors (PIs). PIs interferes with an enzyme called protease, which is used by HIV-infected cells to make new viruses. By blocking protease, Indinavir prevent HIV from multiplying and can reduce the amount of HIV in the body.

What are the adverse effects of Indivan 400 mg Capsules ?

Side effects are unwanted effects of a medicine. Indivan may cause some serious, life-threatening side-effects. It’s important to know the side effects of your medicines so that you know what to do if you get them. Side effects can range from mild to severe and the risk of getting those varies from person to person. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Indinavir :

Common Side Effects of Indivan Capsules : Headache ; Dizziness ; Itching ; Nausea and vomiting ; Cough ; Rash ; Loss of appetite ; Fever ; Weight loss ; Indigestion ; Mood changes ; Insomnia ; Abnormal taste sensation etc.

Serious Side Effects of Indivan Capsules : Shortness of breath ; Yellowing of skin and eyes ; Blood in your urine ; Muscle aches or pain ; Heartburn ; Chest pain (especially when you breathe) ; Trouble speaking or swallowing ; Increased blood cholesterol ; Anemia (break-down of red blood cells) etc.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. If you notice any of these or other problems before or after you have started to take Indinavir 400 mg, talk to your doctor right away.

What are the safety measures of Indivan 400 mg ?

Before Taking Indivan HIV medicine, it is important to understand all precautions or safety information associated with it. You need to remember certain points such as –

If you are a woman who is pregnant or wants to have a baby and you are taking Indivan, let your doctor know right away. This medicine may cause harm to the unborn baby. Use a birth control method while you are taking this hiv medicine. Ask your doctor to help you choose a method of birth control that will work for you.
For the safety of the baby, breastfeeding isn’t recommended during HIV treatment. Many HIV/AIDS drugs like Indivan, may appear in high levels in breast milk and could potentially harm your nursing baby. To get more information, you should discuss this with your doctor. Your health care provider might recommend that you stop breast-feeding temporarily or permanently — depending on how long you need to take the medication.
You will need to have regular blood tests and check-ups during your treatment with Indivan. Blood tests are done to help watch your body’s response to treatment. They can show small changes before problems get serious. Keeping track of your results lets your doctor take action as soon as your blood counts change to help prevent many HIV-related problems and HIV treatment side effects.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Indinavir HIV drug or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes or preservatives. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
Whether it’s safe to drink alcoholic beverages during treatment with Indivan depends on a number of factors, including which drugs the patient is receiving. Alcohol can interfere with the way some oncology drugs work, so patients should speak with their doctors about any potential side effects of drinking during treatment.
Always consult your doctor and pharmacist about taking any other prescription or non-prescription medication, including herbs, supplements and street drugs. This medicine may affect the way other medicines or products work, and other medicines or products may affect how Indivan works. Taking Indinavir together with certain medicines or products may cause serious side effects.
If you miss a dose of Indivan 400 mg, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your dosing schedule. Do not use extra dose to make up for a missed dose. Please consult your doctor to discuss changes in your dosing schedule or a new schedule to make up for missed doses, if you have missed too many doses recently.
Taking a single dose of expired medicine is unlikely to produce an adverse event. Expired drug may become ineffective in treating your prescribed conditions. To be on the safe side, it is important not to use expired drug. If you’ve had a medicine for a while, check the expiry date before using it. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
Before using Indivan (Indinavir), tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially if you have liver problems (including hepatitis B or C infection), diabetes, kidney problems, heart or pancreas problems, or low blood potassium levels etc.
