Oncology Nursing Month

The Role of Oncology Nurses in Journey of Cancer Patients

May is designated as Oncology Nursing Month to honor nurses who care for patients with cancer. Oncology nurses and nursing support staff are on the front lines of cancer care – in explaining the diagnosis, administering treatments, managing side effects, supporting patients and their families, rejoicing during triumphs and offering words of comfort. No matter what their patients' cancer journeys bring, they are with them every step of the way.

 Skin Cancer Awareness

May is National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. This month is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment, including basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma. Skin cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in the United States, with more than two million people diagnosed annually. This type of cancer can affect anyone, regardless of skin color, gender or age. The majority of cases are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light that is generated by the sun or indoor tanning devices.
