Kryxana is given in combination with other cancer medicines, such as letrozole (Femara) or fulvestrant (Faslodex) for the treatment of pre/perimenopausal or postmenopausal women with advanced-stage or metastatic hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HER2-) breast cancer. It is used when cancer has progressed or has spread to other parts of the body after other treatments.
Each film-coated tablet of Kryxana contains 200 mg of Ribociclib, which belongs to a group of medicines called cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitors. It interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells by inhibiting cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) and cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6). CDK4 and CDK6 proteins are thought to be essential for the growth and division of cells. By inhibiting these proteins, Ribociclib tablet can slow down the growth of cancer cells and delay the progression of your breast cancer.
The recommended dose of Kryxana is 600 mg (3*200 mg film-coated tablets) taken orally, once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day break, resulting in a full cycle of 28 days. It is very important that you take your medicine as scheduled. Taking the medication incorrectly can make the treatment less effective.
When it is used in combination with letrozole 2.5 mg, letrozole should be taken orally once a day continuously throughout the 28-day cycle. When this medicine is used in combination with fulvestrant, fulvestrant is administered intramuscularly on days 1, 15 and 29, and once a month thereafter.
It can be taken with or without food. Patients should take their dose of Kryxana Ribociclib with letrozole or fulvestrant at approximately the same time each day, preferably in the morning. Swallow the tablets whole — never crush, cut, chew or bite it. If you are unable to swallow the medicine, talk with your nurse or pharmacist about other ways to take the medicine.
